OCEE Announces Winners of MEE Competitions

The Oklahoma Council on Economic Education announced the winners of the MEE OKC and MEE Ardmore competitions on Nov. 19. This competition teaches students about economics, entrepreneurship, and personal finance. The competition was once again a virtual competition for 2021. Student teams competed over three weeks starting Oct. 19, and the competition concluded on Nov. 5. To allow for greater teacher flexibility, OCEE designed this virtual competition so that students can complete each round at any time during the week. 

Oklahoma City: 

3^rd grade 

3^rd PLACE – Team 365 Pop Whip Parkland Elementary, Yukon OK. 

2^nd PLACE – Team 343 Freezicle John Ross Elementary, Edmond OK.  

1^st PLACE – Team 338 Hot Pop Cupsical, Russell Dougherty Elementary, Edmond OK. 

4^th grade 

3^rd PLACE – Team 462 The Squeeze Generator – Washington Elementary, Norman OK. 

2^nd PLACE – Team 403 Insta Pop – Chisholm Elementary, Edmond OK. 

1^st PLACE – Team 424 Hot Pops – Russell Dougherty Elementary, Edmond OK. 

5^th grade 

3^rd PLACE – Team 503 On the Go Pop, Washington Elementary, Norman OK. 

2^nd PLACE – Team 514 The Popsicle Catcher, Chisholm Elementary, Edmond OK. 

1^st PLACE – Team 517 No Dripsicle, Frontier Elementary, Edmond OK. 

Ardmore:

5^th grade

1^st PLACE – Team 519 The Popinator, Lone Grove Intermediate 

In addition to addressing the required state academic standards in economics and social studies, the event encourages creative and critical problem solving, teamwork and collaboration, and communication skills. 

“We are able to show a 16% knowledge gain in basic personal finance and economic concepts. That is a comparative change from a C to an A letter grade. We are really proud of that and love to see the excitement and enthusiasm of students discovering new skills and opportunities through this program,” said Amy Lee, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Council on Economic Education. 

The winning teams will be honored with gift cards and t-shirts, along with a classroom banner.
