The Stock Market GameTM extends basic math skills, reinforces math knowledge and improves students’ test-taking skills. It enriches math curriculum by applying math in real world situations involving saving and investing. SMG’s “Math Behind the Market” activities provide opportunities to introduce algebraic concepts in middle school. “Math Behind the Market” is fully sponsored by McGraw Hill Financial and free for registered SMG teachers.

Organized around 12 core investment topics, students create and manage an online securities portfolio and a virtual $100,000 account. Easy and flexible math activities woven into the core topics develop proficiency in:

SMG and STEM

The SMG teaches students to apply a structured approach to solvingproblems including: defining a problem, brainstorming, researching and generating ideas, identifying criteria and constraints, exploring possibilities, making a model or prototype, evaluating data, and communicating.

Other STEM skills addressed in SMG are:

Creativity and assessment
Understanding mathematical concepts, such as, numeration, algebraic equations, probability, and estimation
